How to Use Heat to Create your Resin Lacing and Cells
Find out how to use heat to create lacing and cells in your resin.
In this class, we will look at how I went about creating this commissioned side table.
My client requested a side table, using the same Kmart legs that I used on my previous two Freeform Resin Tables, only this time, they wanted a round top for their table.
The brief was for the use of three colours only, and they wanted it to look like waves out in the deep ocean.
The first step is to create a simple design using two contrasting colours, then make the waves using a combination of mineral turpentine and heat.
Note, the trick to good cells and lacing is in the timing of the heat application.
The supply list below is just a guide; you can substitute any of the products listed for your materials. I encourage you to use any products that you already have to hand.
Preparing your board and laying down the design
Pouring the first layer and creating movement in the resin
Pouring the next layer, plus using heat to create the cells and lacing
Sanding and applying your flood coat
Removing the drips
